Volunteer firefighter, Ballston VFD (Arlington County, Virginia - 42 years); former municipal fire protection engineer (City of Alexandria, Va.); owner and principal engineer of Everard Fire Protection Engineering Ltd. (23 years) and Mid Atlantic Testing (18 years); part time instruction at University of Maryland Fire Protection Engineering program (1972) and Northern Virginia Community College Fire Science program (1975- 1977); past member of ASTM; and past member of Board of Directors of NICET.

Current member of NFPA and serving on the Emergency Power Supply committee; member of International Code Council (formerly member of BOCA).

Licensed professional engineer in:  Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Louisiana, Kansas, and Wisconsin.
